📍 Lasithi Plateau
According to myth, this is where Rhea hid baby Zeus from Cronos. The cave features dramatic stalactites and an underground lake—once a Minoan cult site.

Ideon Cave (Ideon Andron)

📍 Mount Ida
Said to be where Zeus was raised by the goat Amalthea and protected by the Kouretes. Archaeological finds include shields and votive offerings.

Melidoni Cave (Gerontospilios)

📍 Rethymno Region
A site of both myth and tragedy—home to Talos the bronze giant, and later a tomb for 300 villagers killed during Ottoman rule.

Sfendoni Cave (Zoniana)

📍 Mount Psiloritis
Legend says a girl was lured by fairies and found dead here. It’s the largest cave open to the public, with surreal formations and guided tours.

Milatos Cave

📍 Near Agios Nikolaos
In 1823, hundreds of Cretans hid here during the War of Independence. A small chapel now honors the victims.

Trapeza Cave (Kronion Cave)

📍 Tzermiado, Lasithi Plateau
Named after Kronos, this cave is rich in archaeological finds and mythic associations with the Titan era.

Chainospilios Cave (Marmarospilios)

📍 Near Kamaraki
Known as the “Labyrinth,” this cave was a rebel hideout and features towering stalagmites over 6 meters tall.

Cave of the Elephants

📍 Souda Bay, Chania
An underwater cave discovered in 1999, containing bones of an extinct elephant species and stunning red stalactites.
